WHEN YOUR HERO WEARS YOUR PANTS!

Think the Nineties, Breakfast Television, platinum blonde pigtails and you have to be close to the household name most of us Thirty somethings grew up with? She was the girl with the quick wit, the bubbly mini skirt wearing Morning Pop Princess who every school girl thought was cool. She became one of the UK’s all round adaptable celebrities who could turn her charming personality, pretty face and talent to anything she set her mind to. Have you guessed it yet? Those who know her like to simply call her DVO, but she may be better known to you as Denise van Outen.

Dragging myself out of bed on a weekday morning for college in 1997 couldn’t have been more unappealing, but at least there was Johnny Vaughan and Denise van Outen to get us through! At that time in my life Designing Swimwear was the last thing on my mind, I was seventeen and wanted to be a Television Presenter and thought Denise was just awesome. I studied BTEC Media at college, made show reels and wrote to the BBC like thousands of girls my age did who wanted to be the next big thing. But Denise just had it, see was on fire and her funny side coupled with that face set her in good stead for the next 20 years. I did however get a response from Andy Peters, yes hand written and very lovely advice. He made my day!
Naturally I am so honoured and proud that my Swimwear label Amoir Camaira was worn by the great van Outen. Her appearances in National press wearing bikinis on the beach have almost out weighed the highly acclaimed performances this talented lady has achieved in her acting and presenting career, and so they should, she is ageless and her toned figure is perfect for Swimwear. But she isn’t just a pretty face! Somehow I find it hard to believe that back then while eating my cornflakes whilst watching her on TV that she would be wearing something I would create some eighteen years later. Im glad it wasn’t Andy Peters….

Although she is best known for presenting The Big Breakfast, for playing Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago both in the West End and on Broadway and for finishing as runner-up in the tenth series of the BBC One dancing show Strictly Come Dancing, van Outen has designed two collections thus far for the website, Very. The first collection was a maternity range launched in March 2010 and the second an autumn/winter collection. This is only a small reflection on her career, I could go on but I am too excited to get to the next bit…

In recent years, around the time that DVO wore our Esmaya Swimsuit on the island of Kandalou in the Maldives she was invited as a guest panellist on the ITV show Loose Women and in the week of 12th November 2014 Denise was featured in a double page spread for Hello Magazine talking about her career, home-life and new love Eddie Boxshall whom is still firmly in her life today. She looked every inch the iconic actress from a Holly wood era wearing our swimsuit and you could tell her happiness came from within, maybe we have Eddie to thank for that.

In 2015 Denise was playing the role of intelligent businesswoman Karin Smart in Eastenders, she was a natural and the accent she was born with fitted the part perfectly. Whilst her personal life continues to be the centre of attention Denise maintains a good work/family life balance with little girl Betsy who is every inch her Mothers beauty. She remains a regular our television screens and her appearance is as stable as ever in the British press. People love DVO because she is the girl next door. If you saw her in the street you know she wouldn’t be one of those celebrities who would turn the other way if asked for a moment of her time. I really like her personality and although I never did follow in her footsteps, choosing a career as a designer was made that little bit more special by having my childhood hero choose to wear my pants 😉

But that wasn’t it, I was in for one more treat, on the 8th of February 2016 Denise was papped on vacation in Barbados with Eddie strolling along the beach wearing my Sierra Halter-neck bikini. The press love to follow Denise and at the time the topic of conversation was Eddie! Although for the bikini World it was the Electric Blue number she was wearing and as the DVO effect has a habit of doing, the attention of our swimwear became centre stage once again thanks to Denise. I am not sure if I read this or made it up, but some years ago I was reading something in the press that Denise had supposedly said. Apparently Denise said she wasn’t happy with her boobs and wanted larger ones, so she kept thinking about it and they just grew! Now I don’t know how much of that is true and we all love the British press for spinning words into stories that sell, but if this were the case her thoughts were good…. Denise you rocked our swimwear and you look bloody amazing! Amen and thank you!
