The temptation to give up is a common one, and nobody is exempt. Failure isn’t something many of us can handle gracefully. And even though we know it’s a common human condition, we’re somehow always surprised when it happens to us.
A shocking thing that I find always amazes me (even with myself at times) is that we set out to achieve something with our body, like weight-loss and we go about it all haphazardly only to become disappointed with the results.
It then takes a while to dawn on us that there was no plan in place to reach that goal and that the haphazard approach really wasn’t the key to our successes. Yet for the most we lead our selves to believe we followed a plan, managed the food, did the training.
Nope – you didn’t. If you managed to take pen to paper to write out a goal, then plan how you’d get there and then each day and each week you marked down what you ate and what you trained i.e weights you’d progressed through, then you’d have a bench mark to fall disappointed against when it didn’t work out.
See where I’m going with this? You big fat quitter! You’ll quit and say it didn’t workout when you didn’t even follow the plan. That’s just dumb. Remember those science lessons in school, no? Let me refresh your memory.
SMART! Remember the acronym that you can use to guide your goal setting in an experiment? It work in all areas of life – keep up!
To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:
- Specific (significant).
- Measurable (motivating).
- Achievable (attainable).
- Relevant (realistic).
- Time bound (time-based).
So don’t moan about a program you have given little efforts to because you have failed to get your head in the right space and put the work in before you even start the work.
I’m not having a go I am just telling you straight-up the reality of your disappointing outcome is down to the fact that YOU forgot the basics of goal setting and tried to leap frog to success.
Go back to the start – you miss a turn!

Lastly this: It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.
